We've Lost Ourselves in Names

We've Lost Ourselves in Names

We've lost ourselves in names.

Created barriers between our awareness and the humming, terrifying aliveness of the reality around us.

Allah,

God,

Brahman,

Yahweh

Source

Energy

Matter

Universe

Tao

We've forgotten that these are all interchangeable symbols.

Fingers pointing towards the same ungraspable, ineffable phenomenon.

Our names have divided us; our syntax corrupts

Our words put the guns in our hands, the certainty on our lips, and the hatred in our hearts.

Yet the essence has always been the same.

Each name is a door to the same house.

We have heard that science without spirituality is a deadened road.

And spirituality, without science, detaches us from life.

Yet perhaps

science and spirituality

are two ancient lovers

desperately reaching

for each other

And it is us who foolishly strive, like fearful parents, to keep them apart.
